The IDEA Center Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement

IDEA has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

IDEA’s own year-end fundraising challenge kicked off on October 3. The goal of the campaign is to raise $25,000 in donations for its own projects designed to positively affect teaching, learning, and student success in higher education. With its own year-end fundraising challenge in place, IDEA wanted to give back to the Manhattan community by supporting the Families in Transition (FIT) Closet and Clothing Exchange sponsored by USD 383. FIT serves children and families in need from Head Start and pre-K through high school with the basics necessary for children to attend school and participate equally with others in class.

Says IDEA Director of Fundraising and Advancement Brad K. Mazon, “Last year we participated in #GivingTuesday by collecting food items for Flint Hills Bread Basket. It was very rewarding for all of us to help out. This year, we wanted to connect the work that our 41 year-old organization does to improve teaching, learning and student success in higher education with a program that is directly involved in education. Barbara Hartnett, Coordinator of FIT’s Closet and Clothing Exchange is pleased to partner with IDEA. Says Hartnett, “The FIT Closet and Clothing exchange serves the disadvantaged children and families in the Manhattan-Ogden School District.  We would not exist without the generous support of many caring individuals, churches and businesses in our community.  We are excited to partner with IDEA in this endeavor.  I’m particularly encouraged to see many of our Families In Transition take ownership in this program by making their own donations of clothing and volunteering their time to help out at the Closet. It is a place of building relations, community and new beginnings.”
