Encouraged student-faculty interaction outside of class

The quality of student-instructor interaction has a significant affect on student learning. The opportunity for interaction outside of class time can enhance that relationship.

Do This Today

Announce that you are holding office hours for the next two weeks (or whatever period of time you prefer) in the student food court or whatever social-gathering spot might work on your campus. Bring your laptop, and set-up shop. If students do not show up, you can get work done. But you may discover that some students will find you more approachable in this less formal location and be more likely to take advantage of access to you outside of class. Don’t forget to post a note on your office door telling people where you are!

Remember that this is just an example of how to get started
 with this Teaching Method.
