To our clients, colleagues and friends, Happy New Year from IDEA . . . and what a year it promises to be!! With new products and services being piloted and launched in 2015, IDEA is at the ready to serve you in your continued pursuit of teaching excellence. In the first of a series of updates from IDEA Product Development, we bring you an overview of the Spring 2015 pilot of the Diagnostic Feedback instrument (formerly referred to as the Diagnostic or “long” form).
Following years of research, the mainstay of the Student Ratings of Instruction system, the Diagnostic Feedback instrument, is being updated to include new learning outcomes and teaching methods to better reflect current trends in higher education. Each change has been researched by IDEA, evaluated by panels of experts, and shared with focus groups that include faculty and students, each providing feedback at various stages. Through this process of development, feedback, and revision, feedback and more revision, we have developed finely honed items that are now ready to be piloted at large in courses on the IDEA-CL platform beginning Spring 2015.
Four new learning outcomes have been created that include diverse perspectives and global awareness, ethical reasoning and decision making, civic engagement, and quantitative literacy. New teaching methods that address diverse perspectives when interpreting material, self-reflection, and service learning have been added. A new student characteristic item was also created related to self-efficacy. In addition, several existing items have been revised or removed.
To learn more about these new items, revisions, and pilot details, as well as to see a draft of the “new” instrument, read about the IDEA2 Pilot here, and stay tuned for updates throughout the year as we help you prepare for this exciting change. With a successful spring pilot, we anticipate the launch of IDEA2 in 2016. At IDEA we are committed to continuous quality improvement.
Best in 2015!
