Business Development Specialist

The IDEA Center is dedicated to improving student learning in higher education through analytics, resources, and advice.  As the Business Development Specialist, you will be responsible for encouraging adoption of a suite of solutions in the higher education market.  In this role, you will work with potential clients to generate interest, create and qualify opportunities, schedule meetings, facilitate presentations and conduct product demonstrations.  

This is an ideal position for a dedicated, hard-working and independently-motivated individual who would enjoy working in a vibrant, fast-paced environment with other driven individuals.  This is a remote position.
 

Qualifications - Required

  • BA/BS-Bachelor’s degree 3+ years business development experience, preferably in the higher education market 
  • Experience with solution selling/consultative selling methodologies 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly articulate to senior-level administrators as well as administrative professionals 
  • Possess a positive, outgoing and self-driven personality with the ability to demonstrate creativity/innovativeness 
  • Strong listening and questioning skills to gain strategic understanding of needs and challenges 
  • Ability to deliver timely follow-up to client specific requests and needs 
  • Travel requirements 20-40% annualized 

Responsibilities

  • Manage full client acquisition cycle from prospect to close. 
  • Act as the primary contact for new client acquisition, lead cultivation, as well as managing the sales pipeline and coordination of any acquisition initiatives involving IDEA partners. 
  • Working with personnel of IDEA partners; target partner client lists to encourage adoption of IDEA products and services. 
  • Coordinate with IDEA staff to arrange annual conference activities, including booth customization/display, marketing materials, saturation strategies, cost, and staffing. 
  • Track effectiveness of conference participation in regards to new exposure, utilizing metrics such as contact with prospective clients, generation of new leads, attendance at IDEA-hosted presentations, etc. 
  • In conjunction with Faculty and Development Specialists, coordinate pre-conference communication to conference attendees, with special regard to prospects.  
  • Secure strategic meetings between IDEA staff and potential new clients. 
  • Coordinate with IDEA’s Public Relations Specialist to keep conference booth messaging current and ensure all promotion/marketing materials are approved for public distribution. 
  • Effectively demonstrate IDEA products and services in person or via electronic means. 
  • Utilize client management systems (Salesforce, Infusionsoft) to record, track, and organize all client initiatives. 
  • Consistently meet or exceed established monthly, quarterly, and annual business development goals. 
  •  Demonstrate professionalism and positive energy when representing IDEA at conference and client events. 

This is a full-time position offering a base salary plus commission.  IDEA offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package.
